Festival Celebration

Brooke – The second week of March on a Monday, we got together with the Palahnuk’s to say good bye to all the learning we did about the Voyageurs.  There were eight stations and throughout the morning we got to go to each one and I started off with the food centre!
Dante – On Monday, March 11th, we ended our learning about the Voyageurs with a celebration of 8 centres.  One of the centres was braiding a ‘ceinture fleche’ and we got to wear them.

Kaelan – Monday, we had French centres with Mrs. Palahnuk’s class and one of the centres was snowshoeing.

Ashley – Today we were finishing up our learning about Voyageurs with Mrs. Palahnuk’s class and one of my favourite centres was eating.  We ate biscuits, blueberries, toffee and pea soup.
Joseph – There were 8 centres and Kaelan, Nathan, Dante, and Spencer were in my group and the first centre we did was make a paper canoe.

Sofia – On a beautiful Monday we had our voyageur celebration with cool centres, my favourite centre was snowshoeing.

Salina – On March 11th, we did voyageur centres for our French learning.  Everyone was in a group.  My favourite centres were snowshoeing because it was fun to try and eating because the food tasted good.

Emma – In the morning we were doing voyageur centres to end our unit on the Voyageurs and one of the centres I loved was checkers and colouring a Voyageur scene.
Maddox – We played checkers because that was an old game that the Voyageurs would play in the tipi to pass time.  We also made a little tipi out of paper because a tipi was where the Voyageurs would sleep.

Jessica – For the first 4 periods we celebrated our festival learning and one of my favourite stations was making the Festival Du Voyageur mascot because we went to festival and then we got to make the mascot.

Nathan – Today we did festival centres and one of the stations was making a canoe and I loved that one because you learned how they made canoes.  We made canoes because they used it back in the day to travel over water so they could get the furs.

Sydney – Today, March 11th, in the morning we did a whole bunch of centres.  The first one I did was snowshoeing.  I thought snowshoeing was easy.  The Voyageurs used snowshoes to get places easier in the snow.
Addy – On the 11th of March, day 3, in the morning, we had 8 Voyageur centres and my favourite centre was the food testing.  We were trying out a meal that the Voyageurs would eat.  I had 6 biscuits and lots of blueberries.

Tristan – From 9:35 – 12:15 we did centres representing our learning about the Voyageurs.  There was snowshoeing which was like snowboarding shoes on a tennis racket and then we walked around and we learned that was how they had to walk through tough snow.  They also had grips on them.

Stacy – For one of the stations my group did snowshoeing.  The snowshoeing was hard to walk in because each time you tried to walk they kept getting tangled in the other one.  I fell 2 times.
Jonathon – Today, Monday, March 11th, we were doing Voyageur centres and my favourite centre was the sashes because it was kind of hard and kind of easy and I liked how mine turned out.  We made the sashes because the Voyageur used them to put over their jackets to hold their coat together and they also wore them around their head to help them carry heavy packages on their back.

Taylor - This morning I missed a few centres, so I only did four centres.  My favourite was making the mascot because you could decorate it at the end.
Jolene – At the snowshoeing centres I was walking and I fell in a hole and when I got out my snowshoe was off.  It was hard to run.

Heidi - Today I missed the centres but I think my favourite one would have been the snowshoeing because I never did it and I always wanted to.

Festival Du Voyageur

Kaelan – Today we had a field trip to the Festival Du Voyageur.  In my group was my mom, Dante, Addy, Jessica and Sofia.  My favourite part about the field trip was the sledding.  Something I would change about next time would be to have a longer day.
Emma – On February 20th we were at the Festival Du Voyageur and my favourite part about it was sledding.
Brooke – When we were at Festival I went sledding on a ride, it was like an old fashion sled.  I went with Heidi on it twice and the first time I was in the front and at the end Heidi fell off. On the second one Heidi went on the front and at the end there were jumps and I went splat.
Stacy – When we got to the Festival Du Voyageur, the first thing we did was sledding and me and Nathan didn’t fall off the sled.  Also when we were in the tepee, we saw furs!
Derek – I liked dancing to the voyageurs.
Jessica – We went to Festival Du Voyageur on a field trip today and the first thing we did was go sledding, me and Sofia went on the sled and it felt like I was going to flip over and we did and we went really far.
Matthew – The first thing we did today was go to Festival and the first thing we did in my group was go in the maze and we kept getting trapped in the dead ends.
Dante – Today on February 20th we had a field trip to Festival Du Voyageur, the first thing we did was go sledding, the second was a music activity, then lunch.  The third thing was the maze and tubing and last was a horse ride.
Heidi – At the end of our field trip to Festival Du Voyageur we went into the gift shop to warm up and we watched this guy juggle.
Tyson – Today we went to Festival and we had lots of fun.
Salina – On Wednesday we had our Festival Du Voyageur field trip, everybody was in groups.  I was in a group with Heidi and Brooke and our leader was Brookes dad.  The first thing we did was look at the snow sculptures.
Nathan – On Wednesday we went to Festival Du Voyageur.  Probably my favourite activity was the horse riding because we got to roll around with the horses.  Before that we had to listen to all the instructions and learned the different types of transportation.
Joseph – In my group was Stacy, Maddox, Nathan and Mrs. Kosolowski.  The first thing we did was go sledding.
Maddox – On Wednesday we went to Festival Du Voyageur.  First my group went sledding, after that we went for something to eat and then we went to the maze and horse power.
Tristan – This Wednesday we went to Festival Du Voyageur and in my group was Tyson, Jonathon, Matthew and me and my group leader was my dad.  My favourite part was the sledding and the toffee.  We got to roll it up on a stick on ice.
Sydney – Today we went on a field trip, it took a long time to get there and when we got there we waited and did a whole bunch of activities.  I thought the most boring part was about the instruments and the best one I thought was the sledding down the ice hill.  At the end we went on a horse sleigh ride and it wasn’t very long.  I also got my face painted and then we went back to school.
Taylor – When everyone got into the school, we didn’t have to get undressed because we were going to Festival.  We got on the bus after announcements.  When we got there, there was a big ice sculpture and there was a long line to get in.  The best part about the Festival was going down the sled ride, I was in the back and Jolene was in the front and Jolene ended up backwards and I was down the hill.
Jolene – In the morning we went to the Festival Du Voyageur and in our group went to the gift shop first and Sydney in our group had money so she bought earrings that were purple, white and blue.
Addy – February 20th our class, room 5 went on a field trip to Festival Du Voyageur. My group leader was Mrs. Oddy and the first thing we did was the big slide.  We wanted to go 3 to a sled, but the man said that you were only allowed 2 so I had to go alone.
Jonathon – On the 20th, 2013 we went to Festival Du Voyageur and the first thing we did in our group was go through the maze.

Learning Buddy Structures
Jonathon – We are building our structures and mine is called the O-14 Tower.
Dante - Last week we started researching about our structures and how we were going to build them, their location, purpose and what materials you would need to build it.
Emma - On Feb 19th we built our structure and we are still not done.
Matthew - Today, we built the Burj Khalifa which is the tallest artificial structure in the world.
Taylor – In the afternoon for four periods we built in our structures in groups.
Jolene – When we built our structure today we had to make three buildings and a cruise ship on top, it is called the Sand Marina Hotel in Singapore.
Kaelan – This week after lunch we started building our structures with our learning buddies from grade 1/2.
Sydney – In the p.m. my partners and I built the CN Tower.

Math Centres
Brooke – Today in the first 2 periods we did math centres.  We only got to 1 centre and I was at a dice rolling centre, and you had to add the dice up.  My partner was Kaelan and Ashley.
Heidi – Today on January 16th we were doing math centres and at my centre we were doing dice rolling and we had to either add or subtract them.  My partner was Tristan.
Emma – In the first 2 periods we were doing math centres and I was at the white board centre where you had a partner and you give people adding or subtracting questions. My partner was Dylan.
Matthew – In the first 2 periods we started math centres and I was at the math flexibility and I was with 2 grade 4’s.
Addy – On January 16th we had new math centres.  My math centre was estimating.  We had to guess how many paper clips, light bright or blocks were in 1 jar.  My partner was Jessica and we were way off from the actual number.
Kaelan – Today we had new math centres and I was at the one that you had to roll a dice with a partner and my partners were Brooke and Jonathon.
Tristan – Today we did math centres and some of them were new and some were the same as last time and the new ones were the dice inside the dice and you roll them and you either pick addition or subtraction.  My partner was Heidi.
Dylan – For white board math centre we had to write a subtraction or addition questions and you had to ask your partner if they wanted a 2 digit or 3 digit number.  After you did the question you would use the calculator to see if you got it right.
Salina – On Wednesday we had math centres and I was at math flexibility.  You both had to flip a card and whoever said the right answer first would get the cards.
Science Habitat Clay Boards
Jonathon – January 16th, 2013 we are doing our clay habitat projects and I am doing the arctic and I am pretty much done.
Jessica – On Wednesday we are going to do our clay boards.  I finished yesterday.  When you are done you have a choice of doing a daily 5 choice or a mini clay board.  Yesterday I did daily 5, but now I am going to start a clay board.
Sydney – At the next two periods we are working on our clay boards and I am working on a smaller one because I finished my bigger one.  You are allowed to do anything on that one and I am putting my name on it if there is enough room.
Jolene – Yesterday I finished my clay board and I was doing the arctic.
Joseph – We are going to present our boards next week.  Mine was ocean.
Tyson – Last week started our clay habitats.  My habitat is the rainforest.  I like everybody’s habitat.
Maddox – Yesterday we were working on a sheet for our clay habitat.
Taylor – Yesterday we were working on this white sheet that was double sided and there were questions we had to answer.  Some questions on the sheet were what are the 4 components, food chain, predators and prey, plant adaptations and animal adaptations.  We had to draw our food chain.

Science Centres
Dante – The 4 centres were: listening to sounds in the hall, guessing sounds ion the radio, matching vocabulary, vocabulary on the white boards.
Tyson – Last week we worked on science centres.  My second centre was listening to sounds on the radio.  Some sounds were hard and some were so easy to figure out.
Taylor- We started science centres and my table got to two, both stations were about vocabulary.  My favourite vocabulary station was matching the vocabulary cards.
Dylan – Tomorrow we are continuing our science centres.  We have two more centres to go.
Kaelan – My first centre was out in the hall and we had to listen to noises and record what we heard.
Jessica – A week ago we did science centres and my group did 2 centres.  One of them was matching up the vocabulary and my partner was Addy and Sydney.  The second station was that we had to write the vocabulary you couldn’t remember on the white board to practice.
Addy – We are doing science centres and we got to only two centres and the first one was matching vocabulary words and they had numbers on the back, so when you were done you could check to see if you were right if the numbers matched.  The second one was writing vocabulary words on mini white boards and the ones you had trouble with you did first.
Jonathon – Last week we did science centres and my first one was going around the school and listening for sounds.  My favourite sound was Mrs. U eating chips.
Salina – When we did science centres last week we only did 2.  The first one I did was go to the radio and listen to sounds.  We had to listen and guess what they were.  The second was going into the hall and find sounds, we couldn’t make the sound.
Emma – When we were doing science centres my first centre was vocabulary.  We had to write on mini white boards.
Matthew – Last week when we were doing science centres, my first one was sound on the radio and one of the sounds was really confusing because it sounded confusing.  My second one was in the hall and you had to hear the sounds and I was paired up with Maddox and Salina.

Math Centres

Maddox - We are doing new math centres this week.  We are studying 3-D shapes, 2-D shapes, estimation and mental math facts.

Heidi – Yesterday we had new math centres and we did one. The one I was at was the estimation.

Dylan – One of the centres we did for math centres was math BINGO.

Emma – When we were at math centres I did math BINGO.  My partner was Tyson.

Salina – On Thursday we got new math centres and we only got to do one.  The one I was at, we had to get magazines and cut out shapes and glue them on chart paper.

Dante – On Thursday January 24th, 2013 we started new math centres.  There were four of them and we only got to do one.

Sofia – On January 24th we had new math centres.  We only did one and the one that I did was the math BINGO.  You had to roll 2 dice or 3 dice, if you get 6 then you grab a BINGO chip and put in on the sheet and you try to get 4 in a row and you win.

Brooke – This week we started new math centres.  There were 4 new ones and we only got to one on Thursday.  The one I was at was estimation and Heidi and I partnered up.  We estimated straws, buttons, popsicle sticks and tabs.

Tyson – This week we started our math centres.  My first centre was BINGO.  My partner was Emma. Emma won the game because I made a mistake and couldn’t get a 16 because we didn’t use 3 dice.

Jessica – Yesterday on Thursday we did math centres.  I was at the centre where you got a piece of paper and you had one die and your partner had one die.  You had to roll it to see what the number would be and then you had to roll to get the right answer. My partner was Addy and we did well on the adding side and the subtracting side was a little confusing.

Kaelan – Yesterday January 24th we started new math centres and I was at the estimation centre.  I did not have a partner.

Sydney – Yesterday we had math centres.  We only got to one, the one at my table, you had to roll the dice and then you would fill in the top with the number you got and then you would fill in the bottom with the next number you got and then after you would roll the dice to see if you got the answer.  My partner was Nathan and he had to switch between me and Taylor because there were only 5 people at the table.

Nathan – January 24th we started new centres and my partner was Sydney and Taylor.  I had to switch back and forth because they didn’t have partners.  The centre I was doing was you had to roll a dice and fill in the paper and roll the answer. I won every game except with Sydney, we tied 3 times, but that was it.

Addy – Yesterday January 24th, we were doing new math centres and my table was the same as Nathan, Jessica, Taylor, and Sydney.  We had a partner and we rolled a dice and filled in the blank with the number we rolled. Then we had to roll the numbers to make the answer and the other side was the same but with subtraction.  My partner was Jessica.

Joseph – My table group had to find 2-D shapes or 3-D shapes and then put them on the big sheets of paper. I was the only one to find a heart shape, but I didn’t put it on yet.

Matthew – Today in the first period we started to design our plan for our habitat that we are going to make out of clay.  Then we are going to put it on the student work wall.
Taylor – Today in the first 2 periods in the morning we planned our habitat scenes and I did the ocean.  You are suppose to have a food chain and mine is fish, seal and orca.
Tyson – This morning we were planning our habitat design and my habitat is the rainforest and we had to do 2 or 3 adaptations.  One of my adaptations was a leaf tailed gecko, it can blend into trees so it can help stay away from predators.
Sofia – Today in the first period, we started doing our habitat design, we had to have lots of detail and there was a sheet that you could draw what you are going to do and above that there was criteria that we worked on at the carpet and we had to copy it onto the paper.  We didn’t get to finish all of it.
Dante – Today in the first and second periods we started planning our habitat design projects.
Nathan – The components of a habitat are food, water, shelter and space.
Jonathon – December 2012, we were planning out our habitat design projects and my habitat was the arctic and we got a piece of paper and drew out our planning.
